Membership in the Zion Genealogical Society also entitles members to our quarterly newsletter, The Illuminator, that contains valuable genealogical information, plus a list of upcoming meetings (topics/speakers) and other events. The printed copy of the newsletter can be mailed to members —or— a PDF file of the newsletter can be sent to members via email. Printed copies of the newsletter are also available for reference review in the Genealogy Room at the Zion-Benton Public Library.
This collection includes information submitted or collected regarding Lake County Families and includes death certifications of some individuals, family sheets, genealogies any information that could provide additional information about a Lake County Family. We appreciate donated information to increase knowledge of the families of Lake County. You can download an index of files/documents available at the library. (index as of February 2025).
Zion Society Family Files Collection
Below are links to the different newspapers that have had their obituaries indexed. Copies of the actual newspaper obituaries can be obtained through the Zion-Benton Public Library. You May order copies of these obituaries by emailing the Zion-Benton Public library via this link, or by entering the following email address: aszion@zblibrary.org. Please note there is a limit of 5 obituaries per order.
The Zion-Benton Public Library has a designated genealogy room containing a significant collection of genealogical reference books/materials and newsletters/publications from other societies. There are family/research files collected by members. The library also houses newspapers. Computers at the library may be used for research, using the library subscriptions for services such as Ancestry.com, FamilySearch.com etc. This library is a designated Family Search Affiliate. Patrons may schedule appointments with volunteers to assist in their genealogical quest.
ZGS receives publications from some genealogical organizations. Paper copies are stored in the Genealogy Resource Room at the Zion Library and can be viewed there.
